Just tuned in to the spectacle that is Man City v Sunderland and noticed that one of the Man City players is wearing BLACK boots! Can you believe that? The commentators haven't even mentioned it. Maybe they are dark purple or something but they certainly look black to me! Just flicked through the other EPL games and am pleased to report that this seems to be a one-off incident although the West Ham physio seems to be wearing black boots too. I thought only referees wore black boots nowadays? Does anyone in the SPFL wear them?

I once heard that SAF would not allow Man U's academy players to wear anything but black boots.

I wore, briefly, one of the first coloured boots on the market. Can't remember their name but they were red Puma with a white logo. Couldn't score in them so changed back to my black puma with the yellow stripe. Puma Pele Mexico City

The first coloured boots I remember were the ones marketed under Georgie Best's name. Dae ye remember those? Think they were purple and black if memory serves.

Yeah, I wanted a pair they tied at the side. My dad wasn't having it, that's when he bought me my first puma's.

I had a pair of George Best boots when i was a bairn, they did tie slightly to the side, but they were def all black, except for his signature in white. Maybe you guys are talking about a later pair which i missed.

This would be 70/71 To my knowledge they were the first but wouldn't swear to it. Definitely a dull purple almost maroon colour

I don't think I've ever owned a black pair!
Best pair/worst pair I had where a white umbro set. Fantastic at shooting but ankle breakers for everything else!

My first pair were also black with wooden studs, I'm sure they were made by Relum, I then got a pair of Gola boots, black with white stripes with moulded rubber studs, luxury.

They year may have been 2 or 3 yrs earlier though. Thinking 68ish maybe. They may have also made plain black one too but I distinctly remember the fancy coloured ones.
