Golfing viewing figures are dying bobby. A lot of it is due (like it or not) to Tiger Woods not being there on TV every 2nd week as it were. Jason Day, Rory and Speith combined can't get the viewers interested. We may have passed peak GOLF! Have u noticed the gimmicks that are being introduced to try to brighten it up a bit?

I myself have really cut back on my viewership of golf in recent years and it may or may not be due to the Tiger effect HFC. I have kind of lost interest due to not being able to play much the last few years. That being said there was record attendance at The Open this year. I think if just one of the top half dozen guy's were to go on a Tiger like run , say 5 or 6 wins in 8 or 10 tourney's that might get the TV viewership a bump up. Like it or not having one guy dominate makes it interesting as the others try and figure out how to reign him in. Thinking about Jack, Arnie, Tiger. When these guy's were in their prime they were virtually untouchable at times. I think Spieth can be that guy.

Number of players playing golf is down, despite their being so many more great courses to play. So interest is falling generally, viewing and playing. But it will still be one of the top sports. How many people watch horse racing or greyhound racing or boxing nowadays? How many kids play football every week?
Anyway, back on topic, Speith might go on to dominate the game but we said that about Johnston last year, Day the year before, Speith the year before, McIlroy the year before etc etc. All of them opened up significant gaps in the order of merit and we thought they were all unbeatable but none of them stayed No 1 for long. Speith and McIlroy may have adjusted to the billionaire lifestyle now and may be about to come back older and wiser. We'll see but I think we'll get the top 4 or 5 jockeying for position for the next few years.
What Speith did on those last 6 holes yesterday was remarkable. Kuchar must be gutted. I just wish I had Peter Aliss commentating on the 13th instead of Dougie Donnelly and Sam Torrance.

Nike are pulling out of golf K19...that really says it all! remember the massive deals both Tiger and Rory were getting....unreal. I think they only pulled out of manufacturing clubs though. The apparel is where the BIG money was for them. When Tiger was on top any week that he won the sales of the red shirt he wore on Sunday were in the millions. At $60-$90 a pop that was serious casholla. They used to have a different design every week and that was the main reason. One weeks sales was likely worth more than Tiger's yearly deal. More people can afford $60-$90 for a shirt than 2-$3000 for a set of clubs.

I see Rory had a snazzy Nike shirt on Sunday. One of those collarless numbers which you wouldn't be allowed to wear at your local club.
Oh and you're right, they've pulled out of equipment to focus on clothes and shoes. It didn't help when Tiger lost his mojo playing with Nike clubs but the final straw was when Rory threw a club into a lake after a poor shot. The on course tv guy said to his caddy 'what club was that he threw into the lake?' and his caddy replied ' a fucking Nike'.
