That's 5 of our automatic starters out for Wednesday (and possibly for the rest of the year). We'll do well to win this one.

Not just automatic starters but arguably our 5 best players.

Just can’t believe we’ve lost Berra, Souttar, Haring, Uche, Naismith and possibly Dikamona for the first Derby of the season. That’s the best spine of a team we’ve had for years.
Dikamona has a dead leg and Wednesday might come too soon for him.

Think one maybe two of that list will play some part, Hearts and Levein like an injury spin prior to derby games! Part of his gamesmanship as I said on other thread, but I maybe proved wrong but not falling for this as whoever plays should be up for it! We have had injuries to contend with all season and not been able to start our strongest team yet, but no excuses this will be a close battle.

Aye dav, never so more so at Celtic at the back where there was no Gray, Hanlon or Porteous so McGregor had to come back in who from the way he played was never 100% fit and was back in too early.
This is something all teams have to cope with and that's where the squad system comes in.......unfortunately for us ours is fairly small and at times we have been threadbare this season in some areas and I don't think we will ever see our strongest side as no sooner someone comes back then someone else is injured.

We have had injuries to contend with all season and not been able to start our strongest team yet, but no excuses this will be a close battle. The only one that has a chance is Dikamona From what I heard, Haring’s hernia op was schedualled for the winter shutdown, now whether it’s been agrivated worse by playing would he take painkillers / injection to play or be on bench? What is the prognosis on Naismith’s injury? As I say I could well be wrong but we have been here before and take nothing including who starts for granted until both teams announced. Like you we’ve had injuries, Marciano, Gray, McGregor, Hanlon, Agyepong, Kamberi, MacLaren and knocks recently to Whittaker, Horgan and Boyle. Now others come in and try to grab the place, some successful others not so. Hearts season’s start has been decent and although losing to Celtic isn’t an issue I’d be worried about it was the lack of laying a glove in anger on them, that is Levein’s fault / mistake, but you brought a raft of players in so like us should have cover and players ready to be up for a derby battle.

Main problem is going to be in central defence,I was assuming that Smith will go in there alongside Jimmy, physical presence definitely lost against Kamberi and mclaren though. We tried to cover the defensive frailties of Mitchell and Smith yesterday, by loading the midfield with cover instead and leaving out width, we were far to narrow all game. Mitchell has not been the same going forward this season. Godinho would come in but I'm sure the little ned Lennon will hold with Horgan and Boyle to run at us and we saw what happened when McGinn came on in the sheep game. Up top Mclean is a willing runner but needs support ,something we don't have, with no Uche or Naismith or anybody else. Morrison in ,Dioum push up in support of mclean would look the only option, this has been the only fault in our transfer dealings not enough forward , central options even one of the kids would have been different, garrichio in to a back four, Mitchell pushed further up to give width with Morrison, Lee, who again was poor against the tic, in the middle with Bozzy, And again Hughes in the middle with Smith still out right. A raft of changes all brought on by injury, it just shows how injuries can feck all plans up. Very very tough game ahead

Quote from BBC page sums it up
Hearts have played some really good stuff this season, but at Murrayfield, they looked set up to contain Celtic rather than attack them. In that sense, they were just waiting to be beaten - and they were, badly. They didn't give the impression that they truly believed that they could win.
Their cause was damaged considerably by Steven Naismith's early injury. For all their laments about the result, the thoughts of Hearts people will have already turned to the Edinburgh derby against Hibs on Wednesday and the mounting casualty list that could, potentially, derail their season in quick order.
There seems to be a curse on the captain's armband at Tynecastle. Christophe Berra - injured. John Souttar - injured. Naismith - injured. Uche Ikpeazu is also out. Peter Haring needs a hernia operation.
Manager Craig Levein has worked hard to introduce depth at the club, but one by one their key men are falling. You wonder for how long they can sustain these losses before it starts to hurt them.
Their next three league games are against Hibs, Celtic and Kilmarnock. As much as Sunday was a crushing disappointment, their run of games in the league and the occupants of their treatment room are the things they'll be thinking about now.
