What a superb finale to a lovely weekend. Sitting out in the patio in glorious sunshine with a glass of Malbec ( a lovely deep maroon colour I may add) and seeing that the mighty Hibees have yet again shat the bed . Wee Streaky Lee must stay. By all accounts I hear, Hibs are utter dross, music to the ears. Enjoy your night Dav and cat boy.

Dav, hfc and Sunny, don’t take it to HEART chaps, it’s only a wee bit of friendly banter. I’m sure you’ll get a wee chance to bite back sometime in the season, although by then, Hibs will probably be heading for the Championship

Initially I was quite pleased when Hibs drew level. On that showing for both sides early doors I know, St Midden would be more of a threat to us

I think the lads must have had an early night Bobby, no sign of them tonight- such a laugh 😂

It's the hope that kills you as a football fan. Sucks the life out of you normally but, on occasion, ties you to a post and kicks you in the bollocks. Still, as Beale says, 37 games left... plenty of time for more disappointments.

Very strange game i thought. The Buddies went 2-0 up without really doing much. Hibs got back to 2-2, again without really doing much. In the end Hibs looked the more likely to win it, then came sucker blow. I might add almost on cue. You could write the script for these occasions as i've seen them so many times before. I'm not gonna go off on one as the season has just started and both Hibs and the Tarts have the type of League fixtures at the start of the season that you could hardly handpick any better if you tried! Europe on Thursday V Luzern is a toughy and Motherwell away next Sunday is no gimme as we know but football is a strange game and 2 wins or even 2 losses will not shock or surprise me anymore. That's where we're at.
EARLY DAYS, LET'S SEE WHERE WE ARE COME OCTOBER 7th AT TYNIE!
GGTTH! as ever....

Poor first 45mins then capitulate after getting back into it after drawing level. Need a performance now v Luzern before going to Fir Park

A mate dragged me along for the first time in many a moon! My thoughts were........
Hibs still have Hanlon and Stevenson in their back 4 , which ended up as a back 3. Surely by now they should have found some younger and stronger players than these two. St Mirrens replacement centre forward rag dolled Hanlon all the time he was on and then his replacement in turn scored the winner.
In the starting line up there were no new Summer signed players.......just Fish and Youan who re-signed.
Hibs midfield has no creation to the extent that they have to resort to long, often diagonal, balls usually towards Doidge. To his credit he won a fair few of these with his head but his flicks nearly always found a St Mirren defender. If you are going to use this tactic then you have to have players running past Doidge to be able to compete for the flick on.
St Mirren tried to contain the game after the break ( not very well as it turned out!) and only started to attack again once pulled back to 2 . 2 ..........and so the sucker punch. However this was no more than they deserved ( over the 90 minutes) and I'm sure would have been disappointed if they left without the three points. To their credit they looked well organised and had two or three players that caught the eye. The one was Olusanya who played centre forward , scoring the second and giving Hanlon a tough time. Funny as he wasn't meant to play at the start, save for an injury to their chosen centre forward in warm up. I also thought that man Gogic had a good game........wonder where he came from!
Why did it take VAR so long to decide that the ref should have a look at the penalty call? Play must have gone on for well over 2 minutes before the ref was asked to go to the monitor. Hibs meantime had attacked and I wonder what the reaction would have been if Hibs had scored only for it to be called back for the VAR. From the challenge it was obvious that VAR were going to look at it, so FFS stop the game there and then so a decision can be made. Then despite all this farce plus a long injury to Marshall , 2 substitutions and a couple of other stoppages for trainers etc less than 5 minutes was added on ?? Mind you the way Hibs were playing they were probably grateful.
My mate couldn't understand why Johnson plays Delferriere at right back whereas he played all his development games in midfield and it is obvious he is struggling in that position, whilst he keeps an actual right back in Miller on the bench??
So I think St Mirren look like it may be a good season. Hibs with that defence and lack of creation from the midfield..... I can only see another up and down one. If Lucerne had someone in the stand watching that then he wouldn't have been concerned...........just double up and nullify Youan and press the midfield.

Truthfully...... I thought StMirren where more workmanlike and for first hour were better team. In my opinion they showed lack of fitness in the final half hour. That must be a bit of a concern. Hibs looked flat for the first hour. Everything went down the one wing and saints snuffed him out. Not sure if it was Hibs substitutions or St Mirren tiring that turned the game your way.
I didn't realise you had played NONE of your new signings. Is that not a concern to you guys?
Nothing is won or lost after 1 game but of course we all like to gloat at the others failures. Let's see how the next month pans out

Not sure what Hereford was watching, not the one i sat and suffered through! St Mirren had next to nothing in front of goal and for the most part neither did Hibs. As for VAR, i counted nearly 4 minutes from the "SAID" incident to the award which is fuckn useless. Infact had Boyle controlled the ball better and went in on goal and scored (yes i know he didn't) and Hibs had gone 1-0 you were then going back on a previous incident to award a spot kick to the other team some 5 minutes or so later. This is why VAR is a farce. I loathe it, i really do.

Vente has not been cleared to play for a start. If he was he'd clearly be playing. Harbottle is 22 and just arrived, Obita came on as did Levitt. 2 other signings were obviously Goalkeepers. Le Fondre came on and scored. What's ur point?

St Mirren did what they had to in front of goal in the first 30 minutes and could and perhaps should have scored before the penalty. ( they were also unlucky not to go three up just moments after the second when Marshall fumbled at his near post but the ball went out for a corner) As I said they then tried to control the game and just look for the quick break. Only after Hibs drew level did they start again to venture further forward which left an exciting last 10 minutes with Hibs going close and eventually St Mirren scoring . Your points about who eventually came on just highlight the point that at the start of the game Johnson went with the same side that beat the Andorran side and none of the new signings were on at kick off........wot I said! Didn't realise it was nearly 4 minutes before VAR called it back.........dreadful ! Agree with drj that St Mirren looked tired late on and fitness is perhaps lacking a little at present. Forgot to also say that Boyle doesn't look 100% fit.

To be fair my team before kick to the laddie was 3 changes from Thurs Boruc didn’t know Marshall was available but I’d still have put the young keeper in as did ok Thurs. I’d have started Levitt in place of JDH and Obita in for Stevenson as I believe those 2 needed minutes. I’d have kept the same 3 up top but it was obvious early that Boyle maybe should have started on bench as didn’t look fully fit.
It’s a juggling act for Johnston just now as has enough players to rotate while we have 2 games per week, but he can’t afford to get it wrong or we will be out of Europe if not v Luzern certainly v Villa and he can’t afford to drop many more league points in the bread and butter of the league as fans are already scenting his blood after Sunday and 1st leg v Inter Club.
