And we're not there ...have long thought this but never really put it out there, so I'd be interested to see what you guy's think. Our demise at national level all began the day Andy Roxburgh was appointed Scotland manager and then compounded during the Craig Brown years. Roxburgh and Brown had the legacy of the proper players like Souness, Gough, McStay and the generation immediately below them. They had success on the back of that group. They then suffocated our game after that. Roxburgh especially was instrumental then in developing the future generations of football talent and went about it in a structured and robotic way establishing this mythical "Largs Mafia" nonsense that tells us Scottish coaches and methods are revolutionary. Our kids are not being allowed to develop in a healthy way and are bound by rules and structures laid down in the 80's by a school teacher with no genuine football pedigree and we are now reaping the rewards of that. Or maybe it's just me

There is an elenent if truth in that, however I still feel that the use of foreign players at even the lower levels of our game is the real issue. Happened around the same time you describe Maroon. I dont understand why even 2nd and 3rd division teams are chok full of foreigners. Of course our favourite weejie scumbags have hardly produced anyone of international note in years.

Roxburgh was given a blank canvas to totally restructure our footballing culture at elite grassroots level...and his legacy is now set in stone. The way we were brought up playing school football, boy's club and maybe BB's or Scout games started to die from then. The game then started to become expensive, rigid and lost it's way. In my opinion that's why we are where we are. Aye foreign imports have impacted on things but we don't allow bairns to be players any more and we haven't since the mid 80's

And yet badges from the SFA coaching classes are very much sought after. There are a few managers and asst managers in the EPL and Champs Div got their badges at SFA classes. So they are either easy or good. Maybe both! So if we pump out good coaches why is the national team crap?

I'd agree they seem to be much sought after but I think it's all part of the Roxburgh legacy and a cash generating machine/myth of the SFA and Roxburghs reputation within the Blazeratti at Uefa. I know they quote coaches like Mourinho as successful graduates but for me it's football by numbers with no understanding as to how the game is played

The £££££ has been the significant problem in Scottish football
Kids have more money, and choices of what sports to play ( most of them on computer games). Clubs chased money; Celtic almost went under until Fergus McCann saved them Hibs almost died with the aid of Mercer and a rotten board until STF saved us Hearts went the same as Hibs until FOH and Budge stepped in The biggest culprit was Sevco chasing Euro glory and hunting Celtic's 9 in a row in doing so they bought English internationals and foreign imports of a decent quality with tainted money schemes and claims that if Celtic spent £1 they would match each one of there £1 by spending £5 until finally they met there match
What other clubs did to match Sevco was bring in 3rd rate foreigners no better than Scottish youth players to chase the holy grail ££££'s In turn the SPL, SFL or SPFL leaders failed to market the game properly and we got left behind countries like England who sold there soul for tv deals and mega bucks. We bent over while the Old Firm monopolised the money and destroyed the competition, no longer the working mans game, but tried to up the level to attract investors but still the same filth was spewed out the bile brothers from West and high investors wanted no part. Along with muppets like Roxburgh our youth couldn't afford to go, stayed at home played console football, parents taking youths to other sports we lost a whole generation of possible players, now thanks to the trials of these clubs above and others such as Gretna, Motherwell, Livingston, Dundee, Dumfermline amongst others clubs are forced to look once more at our youth, kids will see they may have a chance to make it, and if we could get rid of the bile in the stands especially from the West maybe more kids will go to matches and maybe once again the national time will once again prosper
