Apologies to those who don't see anything in American Football except 11 burly guys bouncing off each other..... But well done to Tom Brady and his Patriots side for the most amazing comeback and for his 5th Superbowl win. BUT Falcons you threw it away! 28:3 up going into the last quarter that was "HIBSING IT" at epic proportions. 3 plays were mega in my opinion, Ryan going for a throw play midway through the last quarter where it would have been easier to run the ball and keep it safe.....result a turnover from which the Patriots scored. Secondly with little time left and 8 points up in field goal range, just kick it for the extra 3....result get sacked and taken out of kicking range and so had to punt it back to the Patriots from which they scored again. Lastly that Edelman catch.....brilliant......and gave the extra momentum to believe the comeback was on. Once it went to overtime and the Patriots won the toss to receive first it was only ever going to end one way. Pity for the underdog Falcons as it would have been nice to leave the Dome and move to their new stadium ( looking good when we saw it last year) as Superbowl Champions. They are a young side especially the defense so if they can keep Ryan I have a feeling they will be back there soon for their second superbowl. Well done to the offensive lineman for Atlanta, Alex Mack, who played with a broken bone in his leg......total commitment to play for your club and in the Superbowl. Whereas 2016 was the year of the upset.....Leicester City, Hibernian, Chicago Cubs etc it looks like 2017 is back to normal service Chelsea, Celtic etc.........doesn't look good for the Edinburgh Derby next week for Hibs.

Good report out there Newhaven. I just can't get round to thinking good thoughts about the Patriots, they are the favorite team of one Pres. D.T. Atlanta did Hibs it for sure but more along the lines of bad overall coaching or bad play by play I don't know which. As the stupor bowl is essentially three and half to four hours long and the pre-game was four hour long I really only dipped in to watch now and then. It is a time suck and I hear fewer Americans are actually watching games. Interesting also to hear fans fed up of the over pay, the bad behaviour and lack of punishment when players really step over the line. Cities and counties are figuring out that owners are Uber wealthy and the civic hand out to build new stadia is off the table. It will be interesting to hear what the owners say after their upcoming meetingames with a few teams looking to relocate. Oakland Raiders being one of the teams looking for city bond money, ain't gonna happen, we are broke. Changes happening.

Agreed heart.....when in Atlanta last year at a college game involving Georgia Tech, spoke to many fans who were not enamoured with the Falcons and especially their owner and money involved. I think you are right with American Sport with reports of less watching the football and baseball. It will be interesting to see if the London franchise happens as it probably won't work......big difference between having 3 or 4 London games involving a cross section of the NFL which varying fans wish to see and having one team based in Britain. Already complaints when they announced the games for next year and middle of the road sides on the list ( Cleveland Browns anyone!). Usually get to see one or two games live whilst over in the USA and enjoy the whole experience but yet to get out to the West coast to see Oakland or 49'ers play....one day. Probably get to see the Jets again next season.......wonder why I favour them ......certainly not trophy hunting . Actually prefer College Games to the NFL and follow both Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech.......whole match day experience is fantastic especially at the Hokies .....their entrance to Metallicas "enter Sandman" is epic......that is real bouncing!

At least the officials in American Football take an active role and you don't get the situation like here where the linesmen just wait and see what the ref gives and then copies the decision. At a crucial part of Sundays game it was only one line judge who spotted Edelmans catch was good ( all the others said it was an incomplete pass) and although the Falcons challenged the call it was found to be correct......without the call the Patriots would probably have lost.
If only our linesmen would take a more active role and actually question some of the decisions by Thompson, Dallas, Collum etc......watch out on Sunday!

Would agree college is better supported certainly in the south than the NFL, I find it hard to get into a sport that when your team is loosing by a lot, a player makes a tackle and celebrates it, very individual minded, if you're going to do it do that when your winning.
Not been to see GT yet, have been to UoG where a smashed lad thought I was an Alabama fan due to my shirt color, told him I was a Jambo which right confused him

Always knew you were part of the "crimson tide" .......surprised he had never heard of Hearts. As you know most American sport is stat based so players will celebrate a sack or tackle as it will ........improve their stats , may get the team going, may lead to a better team coming in for them or being picked for the ProBowl etc. This will happen whether winning or losing as each individual play is a chess move where the players on the pitch are being tested at that moment in time and even when losing you don't want to show how much it hurts and let the heads go down. In the Superbowl last week the Patriots players continued to celebrate every tackle and sack even when down 28:3 which probably had something to do with their amazing comeback. If they had moped off the field after every play at the bottom of the third quarter then it would never have happened. It is the American way and must admit does get a little getting used to.
