Congratulations to Sergio Garcia in overcoming Justin Rose in a play off. Excellent standard of play throughout the week from all the top players. Shame Rory fecked up all the par 5's otherwise he may have been right up there after day 3.

I was pulling for Sergio k19. The guy has had some rough do's over the years and to finally get the monkey(King Kong) off his back has to be a great relief. Who knows this may just free him mentally and he could go on to have the career at first envisioned for him. I know he used to be a petulant youngster but he has matured in the last 10 years or so. I saw him at the Canadian Skins game a few years ago and he was the most gracious player there. Very good with the fans. John Daly and Greg Norman on the other hand were surly cnuts except when they new they were on camera.

I wanted Sergio to win as well Bobby. He's had so many near misses he deserved one. I like Rose and would have been happy for either to win but I got 100% behind Sergio when it was going to the wire and just hoped it wouldn't be an error that decided the outcome. In the end, Sergio missed a tap in and he was perhaps lucky Rose didn't sink his putt on the 18th but it was ultimately an error from Rose on the first play off hole that handed Sergio the title (although Sergio birdied it to make sure he 'won' it rather than Rose 'lost' it). Very pleased for Sergio - he's a crowd favourite even after having a very public spat with Tiger Woods (who Sergio claims is a prick of the first order). After 73 attempts at a major, it would be silly to assume he'll win another one but you certainly can't rule him out. There will be those thinking Dustin Johnson will be back next time but they thought Day was unbeatable last year, Spieth the year before, Rory the year before that etc. No reason why Sergio can't win another major this year.

I hope this does free him from the shackles of his own inner demons and he does win a few more. And fom what I have heard Woods is a prick. Just need to look at what he did to his wee bairns and that gorgeous ex wife of his to come to that conclusion.

Win for Europe, like Rose but waited years to see Sergio get a major, and timed perfectly on Seve's 60th birthday

Aye - great battle between Rose & Garcia, and glad that Sergio finally got a well deserved "Major" on his CV, although it could have went any way - they were both playing so well, and so far ahead of the rest of the field. As an aside, me & the missus rolled up to Augusta National 2 days after the Masters final round in the hope of having a look around the place (like we did at Pebble Beach a couple of years back), or at least to take a couple of pictures to mark our presence there. (We had hoped to get tickets for one of the tournament days, or the par-3 day, or even one of the practice days, but there was no hope - everything is booked up years ahead apparently). But - f*ck-me - the place is a b@st@rding FORTRESS!! Couldn't get as much as a peak at the course through the tall thick hedges and solid closed doors to every entrance - bit of a disappointment to say the least. Just need to book 5 years ahead I suppose!

I could have warned ye aboot that Meldrum. I first looked into getting tickets about 12 years ago. All the local "patrons" have had them wrapped up for generations and will them to their descendants. You have to know someone or else pay stratospheric prices if you can find someone who is actually selling them. Plus I hear there is nowhere close to stay even if you were lucky enough to find a ticket. I heard Augusta is not the largest of places and what accommodation are available are of course all booked well ahead (probably years) of time. I just try to convince myself that even though it has been on my bucket list forever I get a better view of things on the TV.

I certainly prefer to watch golf (especially the final rounds) on TV, rather than on the course, but it seemed too good an opportunity to miss as we were there at the time. Augusta is special, but, as you say, very difficult to get in and vastly overpriced even if you do manage to wangle entry somehow. (My Club Pro suggested I get my kilt on and hang about the entrance and that might open a few doors - literally, but I didn't take it. Might have worked, never know now!).

The sad part is that the prices that the Augusta National charges are as I remember very , very fair. In fact bordering on the ludicrously cheap to be honest from what I recall. It is the after market that hikes the prices to what are unbelievable levels. Where Augusta National gets the punters is with merchandising etc.
