I dunno if many on here follow cricket in any way, but I was very saddened to hear of the passing of Aussie batsman Phil Hughes this morning.
Hugely talented player who surely would have gone on to rack up over 100 Test appearances for the Aussies.
Gotta feel for the bowler, Sean Abbott, not his fault...but he must be going through hell right now.
RIP Phil.

I saw the incident on TV, it just seemed like a normal bouncer that hit him on the head and he was wearing head protection, RIP

It's very sad, and absolutely right to spare a thought for Sean Abbot this morning.

Tragic, especially from such innocuous looking contact. RIP

Absolute tragedy, dying playing what is essentially a non contact sport through a freak event. Got to feel for everybody involved

Tragic accident and I hope the bowler and those who witnessed it can get over this.

I was watching SSN this morning and a medical expert explained that there have only ever been 100 recorded incidents of the injury Phil Hughes suffered. Apparently an artery just below the ear was severed on impact with the ball which lead to massive bleeding on the brain which he had very little chance of recovering from.
Freak and tragic accident.
Thoughts go out to all concerned.

Terrible thing to have happened. Will really have shaken up everyone involved. Just a freak thing, he will have faced the same ball a thousand times safely and scored a lot of rubs that way. Such a talented player.
I just hope there isn't a health and safety over reaction to this. Ot was a freak accident and should be treated as such, American football helmets and. Banning bouncers are not the answer.

RIP Phil....thoughts with friends and family.
Also need to spare a thought for the young promising Aussie fast bowler Abbott, who has to live with this through his life and playing career. No problem with the bouncer he bowled just total bad luck to have hit the batsman on the neck below the helmet and dissected the vertebral artery. I hope , as someone said , this doesn't lead to Health and Safety issues with bouncers being banned.
