Just saw this on Twitter....George McNeil, a professional sprinter who at one point was training players at Hearts is pictured racing a trotting cart at the Gyle Raceway....never knew such a place existed...I'm away to do some research

Seem to remember he played for Stirling Albion. At one time he was supposedly the fastest man in the world but because he ran professionaly at Powderhall etc he was ineligible for the Olympics.

That's true he was proclaimed the fasted man in the world. The powderhall sprint, which i saw a few times at meadowbank, was his race. Used to run for Edin Athletic Club and saw him take a running class.
