Dear all SnS readers, writers and wrongdoers. There comes a time when passports are dusted off, all liquids are put in to small containers, all laptops are out and visible and seat backs are upright and tray tables secured. Such an occurrence happened just last week.
The Oak family decamped the fair city of Oakland and boarded a United flight for the sprawling metropolis of Calgary. A leisurely flight of three hours in the last seats at the very back of the scarebus 320. One time zone ahead meant no issues with jet lag acclimatization only the sizzling temp and jump from sea level to a few thousand feet up. Our gracious hosts Bald Bobby and his totally cool better half Mrs. BB have a two level house in a great neighborhood just outside Calgary. BB dropped by Calgary Intl Airport to greet us and have us follow him home. After listening to the live Garth Brooks cover band outside Gate three we picked up our rental car and followed BB home. Now, having read a previous thread about three hours drive to watch a game but commented our Bobby that nothing can be three hours away from anywhere else. Now I know why that comment was made. Bobby drives like Lewis Hamilton was on his tail. A rag top car flashing accross the Alberta countryside with a crazy Scotsman at the wheel, a sight to behold.
Anyway. All good fun for five days including the Calgary Stampede where the Oak family raided the tent where they sold all the cowboy/cowgirl tat. Yes I am now the proud owner of a Stetson that can never be worn in Oakland, well not in public, without getting nailed as some kind of white supremacist. Ah well just means another trip to Calgary to wear my hat.
What a trip from Dinosaur park to bucking Broncos, Calgary has it all and of course the amazing hospitality of Bobby, his wife and of course Angus.
I strongly recommend SnS visitations, go out there and get in touch. Bobby and I talked about sometime rolling down to the middle of the US and drop in on Atlanta. Why not, when Hearts (or Hibs) are at the core of your soul you already have so much in common, why wouldn't you want to drop by, say hi, have a beer and make a new friend.
A hearty thank you to the Bald Bobby family for being great hosts, delicious BBQ and fun to hang out with.
Oak

The pleasure was all ours Oak. Especially Finally getting to meet Mrs Oak and seeing mini Oak again. Next pay cheque I will be able to re-stock the beer fridge ready for the next assault🤪. Honestly guy’s should the opportunity arise to spend some time with the Oakster ( that sounds unappealing!) then take it. Great company. So far I have had the pleasure of meeting at least 4 of the posters on here in person. Every one a gem.

Which reminds me BB Mrs Oak is looking for a couple of recommendations for a place to eat in Calgary for a friend who is a retired CA supreme court judge. What is the in place right now? I want to get this right as he is an arbitrator and she has to work with him with her clients. No pressure eh.

Will talk with missus as she is far more up on that than me. Her being used to being with the downtown set and all that.

I did a long winded one earlier today then my internet connection went on the fritz just about the time I hit the post button and off it went into cyber land ffs! Anyway here are a few places. Alloy,Blink,River Cafe,Rouge, Deane House. All these are among the top 10 or so in Cowtown. I would suggest looking at their websites to narrow it down further. We have eaten at Deane House at a company function a few years ago. Food was top notch. Mrs. has eaten at River Cafe and had wonderful experience there. It is set on Princes Island in the middle of the Bow River in downtown. Hop3 this helps some.

Of course if said Judge would like to forward me his credit card details the Mrs and I could give him much more accurate and meaningful reviews over the next few weeks!😋
