Picking his Scotland U19 side said the reason he didn't pick Real Madrid's Jack Harper, "he is a luxury player his side can't carry and he isn't big enough" I've gone for a physical side and runners, hopefully I'm proved right. Jack Harper is 6ft

Tweets from Ewan Murray
@mrewanmurray: Young Jack Harper would be entitled to tell the Scotland set-up to Foxtrot Oscar given Ricky Sbragia comments this morning.
@mrewanmurray: We are clearly blessed with such youth talent that these "luxury" players from Real Madrid can be ignored. Absolutely hilarious stuff.
@mrewanmurray: "I have gone for a physical side. With runners"... Straight from the Pep Guardiola school of coaching, Ricky. But for kids. Superb.

Was sat next to him in Gladgow airport morning. Wanted to chin him about those comments but didn't. I don't know much about Harper so not sure what type vof player he is but the comments about size didn't make sense

Who is Jack Harper, I've never heard of him. Is he actually playing for Real Madrid? If not then I agree he shouldn't play for Scotland but I don't agree with the coach's comments - he could simply say he is playing kids who are regular starters and this other lad's time will come.

Trouble is, if he is good, and we don't cap him at that age, someone else will.
Totally Neanderthal comments from Sbragia. Strachan has made some noise about how he is all about the skill and athleticism of Scotland players- trying to build a good culture. Evidently, with the likes of Sbragia and Scott Brown he has a struggle on his hands.

His comments indicate to me that he can't be bothered to watch real talent if it it isn't playing on TV

Surely it's not all about winning at U19 level, it's got to be trying to make these laddies better players and get them ready for the full international squad.

I strongly suspect there is more to this - little bit of history/previous perhaps.

Agreed, if Messi were Scottish he wouldn't have got a look in when he was younger, Maradona, small but solid on the ball, a team should be varied and bring skills that yes compliment but don't emulate others, if we all had the same traits the game would be easy to read so Ricky sort it out and get some flair in there, your a development team, wonder what's Gordon 6ft4 Strachens take on this will be

The Sbragia comment on size is horrendous.
However the other comment about him being a luxury player is apparently meant as a kick up the backside. From what I have heard (proba a 50% reliable source) is that he turns up with Scotland thinking he is Billy Big Baws and does not train well. He is arrogant and sees himself as better than the rest.
I think Craig Brown makes a fair point, Real have about 300 youngsters at the same stage, he is in their youth setup, not even their second team ( yes I know that is still hard to get into) so he is not the messiah many think he is. Remember Juanjo played for Barca and Mickey Stewart for Man U, not all make it as players and Real can afford to take a heap of young guys on in the hope that they make it.
Look ar Feruz at Chelsea, he was the next big thing and has not got far, loaned out to Cardiff( I think) and sent back because of his atitiude problem. He now refuses to play for Scotland. Some of these young lads need a reality check, they are told they are like god and if they are abroad they are told that their league is the best and Scotland just has pub teams.
The lads Dad running to the press saying Spain want him suggests this is all true.
