My son and I are taking a road trip to Edmonton for this World Cup Qualifier on Nov 12. Should be crazy up there. They are hoping to break the Canadian record crowd for a football game. Bear in mind it could be -20 to -30c at the 7pm game time. The Canadian coach insisted the next two games be played in Edmonton. The opponents are Costa Rice and Mexico. Can’t imagine what the players on those teams are going to be feeling if it is that cold. I doubt many, if any of them will ever have experienced conditions like that. The weather at this point is pure conjecture as I have seen it close to 0c as well in November. But the worst temp I ever experienced was also in November. -49c in 1977. About a month after I arrived in Canada! I suppose it is not much different than our players going down there and playing in soaring temps with extreme humidity. A bit of a leveller of the playing field. Are we crazy or what? I could just as well stay home and watch on tv in the warmth of my house🤦♂️

Crazy Canuk!
The problem with watching football on the telly is they might interrupt the programme for adverts and you miss the goals. Probably doesn't happen any more but thats exactly what happened when I was watching Canada v Mexico in 97ish, someone scored during a commercial break and it never even showed a replay at half time or full time!

I think they went through a stage where they did the picture in picture thing during the game while showing ads but don’t think that is a “thing” any more either. Could be wrong though.

Oh and by the way. If any of you somehow missed Alphons Davies’ goal a week or so against Mexico, do yourselves a favour and look it up on Youtube. I tried to upload a link but have been unsuccessful. Incredible speed and skill displayed. Although I think he partly sklaffed the finish ( imo) it was still a great finish. He was raised in Edmonton ( my original hometown in Canada). Amazing that a kid with that much skill can be developed in a football backwater like Edmonton😂
