This is really poor, who is this helping? Sorry but I think it is also poor of the English players and management to humiliate a team like this. I remember RIchard Gough berating Sevco players for taking the piss against Hearts when we had 4 sent off. You can be professional and get the job done without doing this to a team. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/59452221

England with 64 shots at goal, 31 on target. Latvia with zero shots at goal. Total humiliation
Ireland hammering Georgia 11-0
Spain embarrassing Scotland 8-0

Imagine what an U-15 boys team would have done to Latvia, FFS.
Imagine what an U-15 boys team would have done to Scotland Women for that matter...
Still, equal pay and all that...

The ladies game has come on in leaps and bounds and I must admit I have enjoyed the few games I have watched Scotland Ladies play at Hampden. All relatively close fought encounters with, as BB said about Darvel Brechin, no flopping about on the floor, diving or other such nonsense. However, for me its clear that they are trying to push it too far too soon. Some countries are clearly miles and miles ahead of others yet we want to mirror the mens game and set up. Personally, I think we need different levels where countries can develop their game and progress to the big girls competitions.
The ladies playing in England have advanced the game and had a lot of good publicity, last night I thought was pretty shameful in the way players celebrated scoring goals even after the score became ridiculous. That for me is unlikely to promote the womens game in the lesser countries but rather it would halt the progress already made.

As you know I watch a lot of womens football and while certain countries and clubs are pumping in loads of cash, for others they are remaining static mainly because there is no money to fund it. ( Even in Scotland we have seen the rise of Sevco and Smeltic womens sides since they decided a couple of years ago to pump in cash, to jump on the womens game bandwagon to the detriment of the rest of the clubs who now not only lose players to England but also now to Glasgow) This does not produce a level playing field and that is why big scores are seen, even Scotland lost 8 . 0 to one of the best teams in the World and the Scots are half decent. I, like you, would like to see a tier of countries and only those in the top section compete for the World Cup itself. The other sections could compete in their own leagues winning promotion to upper tiers as they improve. I don't know how the countries that lost by big scores and do so on a regular basis in this World Cup campaign hope to encourage girls to take up the game. Latvia have conceded 44 goals in 5 games so it must be so disheartening. If I was an England fan I would not take much pleasure in watching the game and certainly the players should have shown a little more humility towards the Latvian players. If this had been against the USA, Sweden, Spain, Australia etc you could understand the response, especially from the media but against a very lowly set of players just trying to get started in the World set up, it was poor. Even Hearts went easy on us in 2012 when you got to 5.
