Things have been chucked at this fixture for a long time but I think the time has come for action to be taken. Both teams had stuff thrown at them with Marcondes being struck and Marshall saying all sorts were chucked at him. However the corkscrew thrown at Shankland was by far the worst and could have caused serious injury. At ER against Sevco a couple of seasons ago I remember a bottle being thrown at one of the sevco players so again a different league in what is being thrown........although any object like coins etc have the ability to be very dangerous .
My mate told me that for the last ER derby no ball boys were placed in front of the Hearts support so obviously previous games have caused issues and they wished not to put the young lads in the firing line. When I was there against Celtic they were back.
Unfortunately I can only see that away fan allocations will be cut with perhaps Hibs being allowed no fans at the next derby at Tynecastle. Hearts should also get a reduced allocation for the next one at Easter Road not only for what they were chucking the other night but also for the seats they ripped out at the last Easter Road derby. Across the segregation line will be interesting as I don't see it being feasible to house one set of fans above the other .
If trouble still occurs then the Edinburgh derby will be heading the same way as the Glasgow one which is sad as the atmosphere made by genuine fans is what makes it special and is being destroyed by coked up neds from both teams.......sad times.
On a better thought, hats off to Shankland for not being put off by all the junk being thrown and putting away an excellent penalty. Marshall went the right way but had no chance. His antics with the half eaten pie were also amusing but not sure I would have taken a bite out of it knowing where it had come from! He and Tavernier in the SPL can certainly take a good pen.
