I thought the ref tried to let the game flow. He could have got really fussy and sent a few off. In all, I thought his performance was balanced, getting a few wrong but most right. Have watched the game again and the TV pics confirm that view

Have watched the game again and the TV pics confirm that view What he said. He never really got in the way of letting them play. No controversial decisions either way. OK 2 iffy penalties that I thought he got right. A ref's performance can be summed up by how much he is noticed both for right or wrong decisions. For the most part he was invisible for me and only showed up when really required. Did a good job of not letting it get out of control I thought. Just my opinion.

We played a bit nieve in the first half ... no left winger with Walker playing up the middle ..Ekersley I counted at least six times running up the wing into space with no back up.. while Patterson was hanging out on the right getting ignored all through the first half...
To cut to the quick we were lucky today as they had a very good penalty shout and at the end maybe a result we were more happy with than Hubs..
By the way an old guy collapsed just up behind me and was carted off.. hope he is ok!

Another good display by the Hibbys. Better team BY FAR in the first half, though the second half was more equal I thought. Interesting to see the Hertz change to try to counteract the Hibs creativity in midfield (quite a compliment for a team 19 points ahead of us) .
The Jambos have a big Friday night game at Sevco and if they avoid defeat then the title should be theirs. Defeat and the 10 point gap can become a bit more false and certainly manageable for Sevco depending on what happens at Ibrox in the meantime, so a Sevco win will make it interesting for u lot.
As for us Hibees, the Stubbs revolution is still on track. No complaints about the team coming together, they are. Problem is we don't want up to 6 games to try to come up to the SPFL. Finishing 2nd means up to 4 games which would be hard enough. (no Malonga for a while and possibly no Gray could make life a bit more difficult for us in the meantime.)
Still, GGTTH!..................................................ROLL ON Falkirk!.

I thought he let the players run the game.... I think there was an element of that Maroon but that is the risk you take in a derby if you decide to let a few things go and not flash cards. Some of the petty stuff going on today almost justifies the fussy refs who throw cards about to stop it. In some cases you have to blame the players and not the ref.

Jaimie Walker was halved 3 times today, once by Oxley outside the box, not once was a foul awarded. Scott Allen, on the other hand, was awarded a free kick every time a Hearts player even looked at him the wrong way. Funny how we all see things differently, but i thought the ref gave us absolutely nothing today and was overly influenced by Craig, who ended up walking a very fine line and had to resort to telling the sub Boyle to have a word in the ref's ear at every decision. Weak refereeing imho.

I like refs who try to let the game flow and let some juicy tackles go as opposed to refs who blow for everything (as n the Sevco game). You can't get into a game which stops every 10 seconds. Even if the decisions are not always right, if the game is flowing it's by far better than teams defending free kicks for 90 minutes.

Well said 19. When some of us were lads and playing most of the tackles we were giving or receiving would most likely , in todays game , result in a booking or sending off. When both teams are dishing it out I say let them play. Just a wee note. How many times did the trainers have to come on the field after a tackle today? Not many times I can remember. How many guys went off injured and were subbed? None that I can remember. Most players today including ours, are so focused on the play acting and conning the refs. It's all about getting a set piece just around the penalty area. I for one have just about had it up to the back teeth with these tactics and wish to fuck they would do something about it. This ref today seemed to be letting them play. Resulting in a game that had some flow to it. Can you honestly say that happens a lot in Derby games? Rant over.

Spot on Bobby and also those in the stand are keeping warm and being vocal instead of sitting on their arses in the freezing cold whilst the defensive walls get organized time after time after time. Nothing to beat an end to end slugfest IMO, regardless of the quality.

Simulation, play acting whatever you wish to call it is in my view disgusting and needs to be stamped out. This could be done very easily - ie any player who in the view of the Referee is guilty of simulation (CHEATING) should get an automatic Red Card, if it transpires the Ref got it wrong then all concerned should accept that it was done for the greater good and integrity of the game, it would soon stop.

I agree to a point SD. Perhaps to do restrospective Reds. I know people compare our day when you hardly ever went down to today when they appear to go down easily. But football today is much much faster and the players are (often) finely tuned athletes. There is also an element of interpretation tinkering that has taken place that has outlawed some of the physical stuff we took and gave out, yet oddly the actual rules have barely changed just interpretation. Sorry I digress my point is that it is really difficult to determine diving from being nudged over. Although I do agree with your sentiment. Personally I would rather introduce the old rugby rule of advancing free kicks 10 yards if players argue and drum into referees and players consistent practice. Highlight exactly what constitutes a yellow card. Some refs give them for a jersey pull some don't, actually have it as a rule that after 4 fouls you will get a yellow. Do away with this nonsense that says "if he hadn't already had a yellow he would have got one for that" if it is yellow offence GIVE IT, if it's a second off he goes. Publish definitions of what "violent conduct" is because it seems to me that all refs have a different take on it. All we really want is consistency. Rant over

How about a panel of ex players who would look at allegations of simulation and would make the call to give a red retrospectively.
