Craig Levein stated that has offered three contracts to potential signings: www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/43595071It looks like recruitment for next season is well under way which I am very pleased about. Hopefully we can get the bulk of our team sorted for next season soon so they can familiarise themselves with each other and Edinburgh. I haven't seen him play, but is Youssouf Mulumbu any good? Kilmarnock have resigned themselves to losing him. Worth a punt, as they say? Mods - feel free to merge this thread with other recent ones regarding potential targets & could you pin this at the top of the forum? This will likely be an active thread for the coming months...

From out of contract players (inc. loanees), I'd keep: McLaughlin Hughes (as player/coach) Milinkovic Naismith Mitchell (another loan deal unless Man United are not interested in keeping him long term, in which case throw the kitchen sink full of cash at them) Adao Randall
Players to get rid of: Djoum unless his performances improve - could use the cash to buy someone good and pay for their wages Callchan unless we can mould him/but he will just be a squad player if he stays Martin - please just go Sammon - sell for money unless he impresses pre-season and use money to buy someone else Loan a bunch of kids out to Championship/Premiership teams

Jeez, I'm almost yearning for the days of Nade, McCallum & Dauda. You know, real strikers.
Almost.

League 2 is an alright league by Scottish standards but I'd hope we would not be looking to ONLY sign players like this.
I want to see some big signings but to be fair we have some big names in our squad. We just need to make them permanent: Naismith, Adao, McLaughlin and Mitchell (loan) would be ideal.

Sportsound tweeting that Levein wants to resign A. Hughes must be a really fit bloke for his age!

Sportsound tweeting that Levein wants to resign A. Hughes must be a really fit bloke for his age! It’s a strange one, personally I wouldn’t give him another deal as he’s struggling to play 2 games in a row. No point in giving him a coaching role unless he’s getting rid of one of our many coaches..

There is an article about it on the BBC website. If you read it then all will come into focus. It is more about the overall picture of what a guy with his experience brings to the table. Not just about games played or fitness.

I don't think he's good enough to be first choice in the team, he was left back against Dundee and had a nightmare. Reading the article Levein is hinting he could a coach but do we really need another coach.

I'm not necessarily disagreeing but it seems odd to me that he remains 1st choice centre back for his country who have been much more successful than our own country yet he isn't rated even when he plays by most HEARTS fans.

I would rather see us sign a younger experienced central defender but he's proved when he's fit that he can do a job especially when we play with 3 at the back. He's definitely not a left back though and struggled against Dundee with their pacy winger.
