Putting my grumpy old man hat on ( I know there is a lot of completion for that here), I’m not sure how signing youngsters for 6months really helps us. Particularly in central defence where we Really need a big ugly old pro. We already have Darge, Neilson and to an extent Sibbick who are young and need help with that side of the game and we aren’t using them.
Young forwards are potentially different but still not a proven route to success.
I can’t think of many 18/20yr old type players who have come to Scotland from the PL and ripped it up? We have had players from Liverpool, Man U, Man City etc and they have all been pretty poor. Hibs have a very mediocre example right now. I just don’t see it working very often. In fact I’m struggling to think of an example where it has. I’m sure there are but I can’t think of them now.

Its a valid point dolf and I share your misgivings (is he better than Neilson for example) but there are occasional exceptions, Jimmy Dunne for example.

Asked about what the Hearts fans can expect from him, he replied:
“I would say I am an aggressive defender. I like to enjoy the ball at my feet, but I enjoy defending and working hard. Every moment I get to step on the pitch, I never give up, but I am a very physical defender and I have a little attribute of a long-throw that I like to try and contribute with.”
Hill spent four years at Fleetwood Town, before Bournemouth signed him in January 2022 for an undisclosed fee and 12-months on from his Cherries move, he believes his game has improved a lot.
“The standard of player that I have been playing with is a lot higher, but I think that has improved me. Coming from Fleetwood and that very physical league, to then having to try and improve myself as a player on the ball at Bournemouth. I think I am really improving in that area and that is something I would like to show here.
“I think you get a bit of everything in this league. It is very physical but also very tactical. For me, I need to learn to play in front of these big crowds as I grow up and I think here is the best place for me to do that.”

Looks like Callum Paterson could be next.
Tweet from Sky’s Keith Downie who is a Jambo.
Hearts signing Garang Kuol & James Hill on the one day ✍🏼 … I’m also hearing that they’re closing in on a return for former player Callum Paterson. The striker only has 5 months left on his Sheff Wed deal & the clubs are close to an agreement for him to move this month

James Hill , a name revered by Scotland supporters over the years Jimmy Hill. Hope the lad doesn't get the same treatment.

Id forgottoen about Jimmy Dunne, hope he is more like him, although Jimmy was 22 so a wee bit older and only played 12 games for us. I had a look at Ashely Smith-Brown as a comparator, came to us from Man City on loan, left after only playing 2 games, supposedly injured but rumours he thought we were below him, was released by Stalybridge Celtic in the summer and no sign of him now! Demi Mithchell and Conor Randall 2 others who were defenders and their career has fallen off a cliff. Having said that Stendal and Cathro brought in loan players who were experienced and they were crap too! Edit; Have to admit I totally forgot about Alex Cochrane, so maybe not all bad, but I then remembered Taylor Moor too, so meh.
