NHL playoffs start tonight and for the first time in 11 tears my Oilers have qualified............finally.
It will see the Oilers come up against Oak's local hero's the San Jose Sharks in a best of seven series.
Oilers have been lead by an MVP season long performance by "The Next One" 20 yr old Connor McDavid. If he is not the most talismanic player in the league and by default the world he is very close (Aye Canjam he is!).
It may be the first time in 20 years that I can say I have a confident , not over confident, feeling we can beat the Sharks in the first round. They have always had the Oilers number in the past but this season has been a different story. The Sharks have aged a lot and the Oilers are just the opposite. Young, tough and fearless with terrific goaltending.
If we can win this series anything after that would be gravy. It will be a great learning experience for the youngsters and prepare them for a better push in the playoffs in the years to come.
This time of year is what it is all about. The eventual winners,if all their series go the full 7 games, will have played 28 games over the next 2 months or in other words 1 game every second night on average. An absolute torture test. Usually the biggest, toughest most skilled team wins. In series such as these you can be lucky and win a game or 2 but usually the cream does rise to the top and the best team eventually triumphs.
The beer is in the bar fridge. The appies are ready for the oven, got my Oilers shirt cleaned and pressed and am ready to scream at the telly!!!
Oh by the way , Oilers win in 6 games!
